Japan Surprises their Group

Coloradorapids.com

There have been many surprises in this year’s World Cup. Italy, the defending world champions, make an early exit and do not get past the group stage. France self-destructs and Brazil barely gets past North Korea. But for one Rapids star, defender Kosuke Kimura, the most exciting surprise was Japan beating Denmark 3-1 and advancing to the second round.

“We (Japan) scored two free kicks (against Denmark), nobody has really scored on free kicks yet in this World Cup. That is unbelievable. I think that everyone is playing well. It was a really tough group to make it out of, but I had faith in them.”

Kimura, who is recovering from an ankle injury, will continue to follow his national team through their World Cup run next week.
